A Slow Walk Around Suzaku Garden

A companion to Episode One of Kyoto, in Sound — six minutes of calm from Suzaku Garden.

Whilst I was out recording the sounds for the first episode of Kyoto, in Sound, I spent the morning wandering Suzaku Garden with microphones to see what I could find (as it turns out, quite a lot). The podcast focuses on what I heard there, but as I moved slowly through the garden I also made videos of a few quiet moments. This week I stitched them together into a 6-minute video, and it felt like a small gift worth sharing as a companion to the episode.

This isn’t something I plan to include with every episode, but now and then, when it feels worth sharing. I’ll offer it as a pause button in your day. No commentary, no narration just the stillness of the places I’m visiting and the soundscapes found there. Kyoto, in Sound is all about slowing down and noticing. This video is one more way of inviting you into that pace.

Would you like to see more occasional video moments like this alongside the podcast? I’d love to hear your thoughts — please send an email.

If you’re visiting Kyoto soon, or already live here, perhaps you’d like to join me on a sound walk or even take part in a future episode of the Kyoto, in Sound podcast. Feel free to reach out in the comments or by email.

And as always, thank you for noticing with me. If this stirred something within you and you’d like to support my work, please consider exploring my music on Bandcamp.

Until next time,

🍃 SJF
